Questions About Giving

Does 100% of my donation go to the food garden kit?

Yes. 100% of kit donations go directly to kits. A R1,500 kit is spent as R600 for the seed kit, R500 for the bucket watering system, R250 for bio-fertiliser and R150 for delivery and training.

Are admin fees or overheads taken off my donation?

No administrative overhead is taken from your kit donation. Delivery and the family’s on-site training are part of the kit itself: R150 of the R1,500.

How is a food garden kit more sustainable hunger relief than a once-off handout?

A handout is eaten and gone. A kit gives a family seeds, bio-fertiliser and a bucket drip system that uses 70% less water, plus training on site, so they can grow food themselves. Families save their own seed and replant every season.

Why is a food garden a gift that keeps feeding a family?

Because the family grows the food themselves. Leafy greens can be picked from about four weeks and most crops within six to eight weeks, and the bio-fertiliser becomes self-sustaining after the first season. Families save seed from their own plants, so the garden can be replanted season after season.

How are the families who receive sponsored garden kits selected?

Kits go to families and communities facing food insecurity. In a corporate programme, the business chooses the communities it wants to reach. Where kits go out through church networks, faith leaders help identify the families most in need. To ask about a particular community, WhatsApp or email Carin.

Who receives the kit and where, and can I choose the community or province?

Our current named project is Alexandra Township, Gauteng.
